In this day and age, the millennials are a force to be wreaking with! We are taking our own ideas and turning them into businesses. We are disrupting the workforce because we don’t want to conform and work hard for someone else’s dream! I am 100 percent on board and loving it. When you ask your parents if they ever thought about starting a business nine times out of ten they are going to say no. I recently asked my mom and said: “You never wanted something of your own”? She responded with “No, my job was to have you, work my 9 to 5, and come home”.
Honestly, that’s what generations have done in the past, they were happy and content with what seemed to be the norm. They had dreams but very few acted on them. They didn’t really have opportunities and platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to provide them with a voice to get started. Now it is easier than ever to have your own business or side hustle, even if it’s just for fun or testing the waters. There are so many tools and opportunities to help guide you through a startup that it also becomes overwhelming seeming as if that is just WAY too much to do. Please don’t let that discourage you! Everyone has what it takes!
You Dream Big– Yes it’s very easy to dream big but do you execute plans to make your dream come to life? Are you constantly dreaming or are you dreaming as if it will never happen and putting it in the back of your mind? In society today we can definitely dream bigger than we ever had because we have google and social media of course!
You Read A Lot– This goes hand in hand with dreaming big because you HAVE to read! You need to do your research if you want to start anything! And believe me with the blog I research every day! It’s just like another part-time job that I have because I’m that invested. So start reading honey!
You’re Not Okay With Being Comfortable– Sometimes in the middle of the night my brain just starts thinking and thinking of all these ideas and how I need to make at least one work and stick with it. Being comfortable is fine but sometimes (especially when you are young) you want to see what else is in store for you. You want to create, expand, execute and grow!
You’re Ready To Work Hard– Believe me, hard work and consistency are both major keys. I have stayed up many late nights working on special projects including my blog. As well as staying in some weekends because I knew I had to finish things up. Keeping yourself accountable to making deadlines that you had set can be hard but you just have to do it.
You Don’t Mind Failure– Failing is low-key the gateway to WINNING! There are going to be plenty of times when you don’t do something right, misspell a word, or even mess the whole thing up, having to start from scratch. We need these times because they are major life lessons and how we gain our knowledge. No one is perfect!
You’re A Hustler– I’m writing this as Hustling, Hustling, Hustling, plays in my head. You have to stay busy and keep it moving. Even when it’s hard work just keep moving forward. Pinching pennies with a dream? Keep it moving, keep striving, and keep hustling!
Passion– Someone once asked me what is it that you love to do? Something you can get so caught up in, doing it for hours and don’t even notice? I said wow! Definitely writing because I love to write and I can be writing for a whole day…crazy, I know! So I want you to ask yourself that same question. What’s work? But doesn’t really feel like work?
Self-Starter– Remember when you begin this, when you’re up and running, and when you’re successful you have NO boss! YOU have to call the shots, YOU have to make yourself accountable, and YOU have to make sure things are being done!
Confidence– Believe in yourself! Know your worth and add taxes as they say! Don’t take anything less than what you deserve. If you deserve more, demand more! Stop settling and start believing in yourself! Don’t sleep on yourself because too many people are going to do that already!
Discipline– If your friends invite you to a party but you have a goal to work on that needs to be completed that night… * clears throat* umm I think you need to stay inside and get to work. Don’t worry it will pay off in the long run. Trust me! Discipline is a part of making the dream work!
Persistent– It’s going to be a hard road but you have to stay persistent. Just keep pushing forward and think of the end result. If you get stuck, try breaking the task down in smaller pieces and you will figure it out. Just hang in there!
Flexible– Most of the time things are not going to work out in your favor but work out for the better. Ever heard of God laughs at us when we make our own plans? Well, he is going to laugh at you too for thinking this is going to go exactly as planned because it’s not. Life happens and you have to deal with it!
Pick The Right Business For You– I know that finding what type or kind of business can be hard, believe me, I’ve been there myself. I have acted off of a whole bunch of ideas thinking maybe I can do this or maybe I can do that but simply they weren’t for me. Make sure you pick something that you love and something you can see yourself doing for a long time.
Write Your Business Plan– Now this one can be kind of tough as well. I recently wrote a business plan and there are some questions that I can’t even answer yet because I’m not sure. But I always go back and look at my business plan, it helps with moving forward and knowing what you want to achieve with your business.
Find Your Target Audience– Finding your target audience is so important because you don’t want to advertise or send your message to 1,000 people who really aren’t interested in your business. You would rather have 100 people who support you and want to hear what you have to say! This way you know that they are interested and willing to buy services or products from you.
Create Value – Now you don’t want to give your customers any old thing, I mean think about it. Would you want to support and buy from someone who doesn’t really create value in your life? Customers are saying yeah okay that’s cool but where’s the value? What does it add to my life? How will it help me? These questions are important when crafting your service or product.
Research– Research! Research! Research! No one is born knowing exactly what they want to do and how to do it! They don’t just wake up with the answers! They actually research, spending hours, days, and weekends trying to figure out how to get started. Every night your homework should be research!
Start– The hardest part but the most important part…START! So many people think things have to be perfect and that’s why they don’t start. They think before I have this up and running, I have to know everything and you don’t! Just START! Make it happen, take the knowledge you have right now even if it’s not that much and run with it. Learn along the way, make mistakes, and keep pushing forward. Good luck on your journey!
